A little bit about me…

I am a retired career educator with experience in Kansas City Kansas, Shawnee Mission, Olathe, DeSoto, and Belton Missouri School Districts.  Twenty-six years were in the Olathe School District, and thirty-one years were in the role of building or district administrator.  I am passionate about public education and believe it to be the path which offers the greatest opportunity to prepare students for their future - college, career, and life, just as the vision statement for the Olathe School District states.

“Students Prepared for Their Future”

Since 1989 I have been involved with the Olathe District in some capacity--as a teacher for two years and then 24 years as a school administrator.  Since my retirement I have continued to live within district boundaries and currently I have four grandchildren who attend Olathe schools.

My tenure as an administrator in the district was during the decades of rapid growth and change.  As a building leader I led others through the challenges of increased enrollment, opening new schools, boundary changes, the design and implementation of 21st Century Programs (now Academies), Designated Scholars and the reconfiguration of schools to the K-5, 6-8 and 9-12 model we currently have.

Following my retirement from Olathe I served as a Director of Teaching and Learning, a high school administrator, and the Director of Academies in other school districts.  The experiences acquired during my career provide me with a unique perspective to serve as a BOE member.  I have worked with Boards of Education in four different school districts, each with their style and personality.  A common thread for all was a desire to provide the best educational opportunities possible for all students in their respective districts.

In May 2023 I applied and was selected to fill the vacated District1 Position 1 representative on the Olathe School Board.  I pursued the position because I can contribute and provide leadership for the success of the school district and the fulfillment of the vision: "Students Prepared for Their Future".  I earnestly want to continue to serve the Olathe community for the next four years.

Thank you for your support.  I look forward to continuing to serve you.
